It's a symposium of arts and crafts which aims to spread well-being at the table in the world through Italian cuisine and its values. A space for dialogue and exchange on food understood as a territory of culture, beauty and savoir-faire, but above all as a universal resource – available to all – for sustainable well-being.

“Food can be considered the highest and most transversal form of contemporary art: it encompasses the concept of beauty, taste, design, hospitality, celebration, the sacred; and it goes beyond all this because it concerns the very life of each person, through nourishment. Food embraces everything" declares Antonella Bondi, Architect, Founder and Creative Curator of Journey in Italy with the support of Engineer Ruggero Dassi, President of the non-profit association Journey in The Planet ETS.

It all starts from There Mediterranean Diet, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in November 2010. A diet universally recognized as beneficial and sustainable, which becomes the starting point for promoting a virtuous lifestyle through a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural exchange. Its nutritional principles can in fact be harmoniously reflected in the different culinary traditions of the South and North of the world, and at the same time its cuisine is able to constantly enrich itself with foods from other cultures, in a high-level comparison, with equal reciprocal dignity.

A dialogue that is articulated through masterclasses, symposiums, workshops, narrations on the theme, cooking shows, tastings, conferences, dinners and events all united by a common denominator: to encourage the culture of healthy and quality food, also through examples of Italian excellence that find in this "journey" an exclusive opportunity to make themselves known globally and create virtuous synergies.

And this is how winemakers, producers, entrepreneurs, chefs but also historians, sociologists, writers, journalists, designers, artists and singers, as well as representatives of institutions, gather around the same "table", enjoying a a space in which to share ideas, skills and projects, and give visibility to one's excellence both in terms of products and know-how.

To give a global and visionary vocation to Journey in Italy it is also the involvement of some key institutions that identify food as an opportunity to generate dialogue between countries and a fruitful intercultural cooperation. Italian cuisine is now universally considered a resource that goes well beyond simple nutrition, so much so that the benefits generated by the Mediterranean Diet are in line with Sustainable Development Goals established by the UN. An alignment of visions that has allowed Journey in Italy to share the values of the UN ReGeneration 2030 programme, a global alliance born to create a new economic, social and environmental paradigm, available to all, in the name of sustainability.

The Mediterranean Diet is therefore a lifestyle and a cultural approach, more than just a diet. That's why the foundations of Journey in Italy include in their design matrix other pillars of the Italian art of living such as opera singing, proclaimed Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO on 6 December 2023.

THE GRAND TOUR

A JOURNEY OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENTIAL PATH
WITH 11 APPOINTMENTS BETWEEN 14 AND 18 NOVEMBER 2023,
IN 11 CITIES AROUND THE WORLD, FROM NEW YORK TO LONDON, FROM MILAN TO HONG KONG

In the 18th century great writers, intellectuals and young aristocrats left for the Grand Tour, a journey to discover the main areas of European cultural interest. The event saw the participation of permanent representatives of various countries from around the world and of the UN, UNESCO and FAO agencies, gathered around a symbolic table to explore the synergy between sustainability of production systems, food security and nutrition as a source of well-being.

A panel of experts also explored the topic “Between Tradition and Innovation: Sustainable practices for Food, Nutrition and Wellbeing”, with numerous food for thought on the points of contact between tradition and innovation in the food and culinary fields. Finally, the capital, Beijing, with a dinner by the 1 Michelin star Chef Andrea Susto at the Opera Restaurant on November 18th,

The events will once again be sponsored by the world of institutions – from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to ICE, to the Mediterranean Diet Foundation, to the Milan Polytechnic, ADI and the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation – with the presence of ambassadors, general consuls, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and of the individual sponsoring institutions, journalists, entrepreneurs and sponsors at each of the evenings.

During the three evenings, the Mediterranean Diet offered a stimulating starting point to explore how its principles can be integrated into the lifestyle of cultures other than the Italian one, but also how the excellence of Chinese cuisine can be integrated into this diet. A journey therefore in the name of exchange and sharing.

THE ORIGINS
THE INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH OF THE BAUHAUS

A cultural project born from the vision of Antonella Bondi, architect and olfactory designer of sensory paths of natural food and room fragrances, Journey in Italy It has its cultural roots in one of the greatest examples of artistic interdisciplinarity in history: the Bauhaus.

Founded in 1919 in Weimar by German architect Walter Gropius, the famous school of architecture, arts and crafts courageously transcended the boundaries between fine art and craftsmanship to invent a new way of living.

An ambitious goal that also sets itself Journey in Italy, that is, to build a healthy and sustainable lifestyle through a combination of artistic expressions and artisanal skills linked to the territory of Mediterranean cuisine.

An exchange that recognizes the value of the individual and his mastery in mastering his own know-how, enhancing it through an integrated and “unity of the arts” approach that allows us to go beyond the boundaries of individual areas of expertise.

The table thus becomes the real and symbolic place around which to gather to give space to a dialogue between the different disciplines, to give visibility to one's excellence and to experiment with a common ground of exchange and mutual enrichment, but also to imagine shared projects, form alliances, undertake new collaborations and adventures.

WHO WE ARE

Born in 2023, Journey in Italy is a cultural project conceived by Antonella Bondi Architect, to promote the Mediterranean Diet as a sustainable heritage of health, culture and well-being available to all.
